Botanic Mollusk

Draping / Banana fibre fabric / 2016

The fabric employed is sponsored by a couple of French entrepreneurs whose factory in the Philippines specialises in the production of new eco-friendly fabrics made from banana fibre.

With the creative goal of a wearable soft sculpture, the design skillfully exploits the superior flexibility and transparency of banana fibre fabric to create "a new plant-based creature" that seems to breathe and flow. Approaching unfamiliar and specific fabrics, spending time with them, discovering their most beautiful and outstanding qualities and using them as a starting point to develop new designs through three-dimensional tailoring. The core of this wearable art is based on this patient and respectful approach to materials.
